Lal Bazar family accuses a govt employee of harassment

Srinagar:  A family from Lal Bazar Srinagar, carrying combustible substance emerged in Press Enclave Srinagar on Thursday. The members of the family displayed a petrol bottle and said they are carrying it to set themselves on fire. However, some people present in the Press Enclave prevented them from doing so and advised them to visit District Development Commissioner’s office for the redressal of their grievance.

Before leaving the Press Enclave for the office of DDC Srinagar, the family members led by Muhammad Ashraf Khan told Kashmir News Trust that their neighbor Reyaz Ahmed Beigh who is working in Divisional Commissioner’s office Srinagar is harassing them and even using police to scare them.

“My neighbor Reyaz Ahmed Beigh who claims to be a top officer in Divisional Commissioner’s office Srinagar is forcing us to sell our house and for this purpose he is using some policemen who are threatening us. Some policemen barged into our house and thrashed my daughter Afshan. The policemen even snatched the cell phone of my daughter,” he said.

He said they are not willing to sell their house to this man. “He lives behind us and wants to buy our house, but why should we sell our house and move some other place,” Khan who hails from Omar Colony Lal Bazar said.

Khan said that his neighbor is using his influence and is continuously harassing them. “Nobody listen to us. We are being forced to take extreme step, that’s why we are carrying petrol with us,” he said.

Abida, the daughter of Muhammad Ashraf said that the said employee is using Srinagar Municipal Corporation employees as well for his personal gains and his only motive is to grab our property. “He wants to occupy our house by hook or by crook. We spent most of the time at police station. Isn’t there anybody who will rein in this employee,” she questioned.

The family said that whole locality knows the truth and yet the police and SMC are favouring this government employee.

The family members sought intervention of LG, Divisional Commissioner, DDC Srinagar and Police Chief, Dilbagh Singh. (KNT)
