Screening of men being carried out on daily basis at each unit, no case with serious symptoms of Covid-19 found so far, says officiating PRO Neeraj Rathore

Srinagar: At a time when Kashmir is under the tight grip fear triggered by the fast spreading Coronavirus also known as Covid-19, Central forces deployed in large numbers across the Valley have started thorough screening of its men who come from various parts of India to join back their duties again.

The force has decided to ensure daily monitoring Central Reserve Police Personnel (CRPF) with cough and cold symptoms in their respective units and if anybody is found to be the suspect for Covid-19, he would be immediately sent to isolation facility set up by the J&K government.

According to the wire service—Kashmir News Observer(KNO), CRPF men undertake journey almost every day in large numbers after their weekly, fortnightly, and monthly leaves end. Figures accessed by the wire service suggest that each day, 150 CRPF men join back their duties. “Since CRPF is country’s largest police force, our men are spread all over India. On an average 75 men leave for their respective places every day,” said officiating spokesman of CRPF Neeraj Rathore.

He said that the force had been directed by the CRPF’s medical directorate in New Delhi to maintain hygiene and to conduct regular screening exercises on daily basis, on day one when alert was sounded across the country.

“Our every unit has a Medical Intervention (MI) room where a doctor is stationed round the clock. So we are using these rooms for screening of our men with flu symptoms like cough and cold,” Rathore said. He said that no case of serious nature has come to fore so far though “we are deployed in strength in Kashmir.”

He said that if any suspect is found with serious symptoms, same will be conveyed to the J&K administration and the patient would be shifted to the special facilities set up the government like SKIMS, SMHS, Isolation wards at Sanatnagar and other areas of the Valley.

As per KNO, post deadly suicide attack on February 14 last year at Lethpora, Pulwma in which 40 CRPF men died, the Ministry of Home Affairs sanctioned air-travel for the CRPF men including officers and sub-ordinates. This resulted in the less flow of CRPF convoys on roads, even though CRPF has not done away with road travel completely—(KNO)
