Aggrieved students in Iran must get in touch with MEA through Resident Commissioner: DC Sgr says 10-bed isolation ward, General OPD set up at Sanatnagar

Srinagar: The parents of Kashmiri students studying in Iran today staged a protest in Srinagar to urge the Central government to evacuate them Iran.
Meanwhile, the J&K administration stated that self-declartion forms are available at the Srinagar international airport while as a 10-bed isolation ward and a general OPD facility has been set up at Maternity Hospital Sanatnagar.
According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the protest was held at press colony Srinagar. Several parents speaking to the press said the government should evacuate Kashmiri students from Iran which has seen the highest number of deaths due to Corno-Virus outside China.
“Scores of Kashmiri students are enrolled in different colleges and universities in Shiraz, Isfhan, and Tehran and, we want the government to quickly to evacuate them from Iran,’’ said Noor Muhammad, a parent. “ My son is studying medicine Iran and we are distressed as we have no information about him.”
He said the government should send for them Kashmiri students stuck in Iran as it did for Indian in China. He said most parent are not able to contact their children due to internet blockade.
“We used to have video chats with our kids in Iran but after the internet blockade we have minimum contact,’’ he told KNO.
Another parent Javid Bhat said they have no idea about the fate of their children as colleges and universities in Iran have been closed. “Our children are stuck in dormitories,’’ Bhat said. She said the government should evacuate them quickly. Abdul Rehman Peer, another parent, said his daughter Irman Fatima studies in a medical school in Shiraz and he want her to return home. “We want our kids should be brought home immediately,’’ Peer said.
Meanwhile deputy commissioner Srinagar Shahid Choudhry in a tweet urged the Kashmiri students in Iran ‘to get in touch with MEA through J&K Resident Commissioner to facilitate return travel’. The health department in Kashmir has also readied facilities in Srinagar to deal with possible cases in Kashmir. The department has mobilised trained staff and established an isolation ward at Maternity Center and General OPD at Sanatnagar in Srinagar under Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Naheed Amin.
“We have deployed specially trained staff here and readied a 10-bed isolation ward for possible cases,’’ Amin told KNO. “ We have also mobilised ambulances in case someone needs to be brought here.”
She said they have also deputed doctors at several medical facilities across Srinagar. She said the health department is fully alive to the threat of spread of the virus and they are alert. The J&K government has also deputed medical staff to screen foreigners at Srinagar airport. About students who have returned from Iran, she said all of them have been traced and all of them have tested negative. She said as a precaution they have been advised to observe quarantine—(KNO)
