Jammu: Blaming Delhi Police inaction and politics of hate spread by the BJP as reasons for Delhi violence which has consumed 34 lives so-far, CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami Wednesday said that the BJP government didn’t even tolerate the judge of Delhi High Court – who had on Wednesday criticized the government as well as the police for the violence and transferred him.

“The response of the Delhi Police to the escalating violence has been rather tardy, a trait that has been seen consistently in the recent past at Jamia Millia Islamia University, JNU, Shaheen Bagh and now in the trans-Yamuna area. The Delhi Police, generally adept at dealing with such situations, has appeared rudderless and listless, bereft of any sense of direction and purpose,” Tarigami said in a statement issued to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

He said Justice S Muralidhar, who had on Tuesday held a hearing at midnight and asked the police to ensure safe passage to those injured during the violence, and to provide emergency medical assistance at government hospitals, was transferred immediately which shows the intolerance of this BJP government.

“It is clear that the violence in Delhi has the sanction of the police and that of the powers that govern them. Both Prime Minister and Union Home Minister maintained silence for three days when mayhem, madness and terror was ruling the roads and streets of Delhi,” he added.

He said they are solely responsible for the situation in the national capital today. “The hate speeches by the BJP ministers, MPs and top ruling party leaders in Delhi inciting hate and violence in a call to arms – “Goli Maaron…” – are responsible for the collapse in law and order that we see today in the national capital,” he added.

Tarigami further stated that the only way to restore confidence among the people of Delhi is to take strict action against those engaging in violence and unlawful activities and bringing in army to assist civilian authorities is one of the options before the government to do so.

“I appeal to all secular parties to come together to lend confidence to people. People of the country should stay united to fight against these divisive forces, who want to divide people on the lines of religion and caste,” he added. (KNO)
