Budgam: An area in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district is without electricity from past 4 months. The locals from New Colony Makhama staged a protest here in Press Enclave Srinagar accusing Power Development Department of callousness.

“PDD was planning to pass a transmission line from Rudbugh village to our area that is Bon Mohalla, New Colony, Makhama. The locals from Rudbugh objected claiming they will face voltage crisis through this move. Since November, the PDD has failed to resolve the issue as a result we are without electricity from past 4 months,” the protesters told Kashmir News Trust.

They said a Committee has been constituted to resolve the matter between them and the locals from Rudbugh but till date that Committee has not taken any decision. “This issue is a threat to peace in the area and needs to be resolved without anymore delay. We are humans and need electricity. The dilly dally tactics on part of PDD to resolve the issue has made us suffer a lot. We want issue should be resolved amicably so that locals get electricity,” the protesters said.

Pertinently, in the first week of January this year, the tussle between these two Budgam villages over electricity had left over a dozen persons injured while Police had imposed restrictions on the movement of people to maintain peace and order. (KNT)
