Srinagar: Devotees line up to offer prayers at Sri Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar, on the occasion of MahaShivRatri. Like elsewhere in the country Maha Shivratri being celebrated across Jammu Kashmir today. Devotees worship Lord Shiva, the destroyer of evil, on the occasion.

Shivratri, literally the night of Shiva, is one of the most important occasions of the Hindu calendar.

Shivratri, also known as Herath holds special significance among Kashmiri Pandit community. The Pandit community celebrates the festival for several weeks. During the celebration, they cook fish, special vegetables dishes and designate days with special names to offer prayers to Lord Shiva each day.

In Srinagar, a large number of people are reaching Shankaracharya temple in Zebarwan hills range for Dharshan.
