Friday alert in UP: mobile internet shutdown in 21 districts

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh government has issued a high alert by sprucing up security and snapping mobile internet connections in at least 21 districts after violence erupted during the last Friday namaz. Around 35 companies of central forces have been rushed to sensitive areas along with 120 of PAC while flag marches have been conducted in all the area. UP government had already promulgated section 144 of the CrPC in all the 75 districts which will continue till January 31.

During the last Friday and Saturday in the protest over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), violence marked the state with death of 21 people and over 50 were injured in large scale violence in several districts. The UP government has ordered a SIT probe into the violence.Meanwhile today, the Muslim clerics have appealed to the people to maintain peace.Security at all the mosques and other places have been enhanced while government was monitoring the situation minutely.
Mobile internet have been snapped for the day in 21 districts including Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj,Aligarh, Agra, Mathura, Sitapur, Firozabad, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Saharanpur, Hapur and other places.On the other hand, the UP government has issued notices to 498 people in the state for attachment of the properties, who were involved in the violence.Of these, highest number of 148 people are from Meerut, followed by 82 in Lucknow, 79 in Rampur, 73 in Muzaffarnagar, 50 in Kanpur, 26 in Sambhal, 19 in Bulandshahr, 13 in Ferozabad and 8 in Mau.

Police sources here on Friday said till date since December 10 last, police has arrested 1,113 people after registering 327 FIRs for violence and demonstration in the state. Around 5558 people were also detained.The officials said 19 people had died in the violence though unofficial sources put the figure at 21 with over 500 injured, including 288 policemen. Of the injured policemen 61 received bullet injuries.After the violence, police had recovered 647 empty cartridges of banned bore along with 69 live cartridges and 35 illegal firearms.During the violence, criminals snatched the service pistol of a police inspector in Sambhal on Saturday last.
