Accuses NC, PDP, others of playing with sentiments of people; say 80 per cent councilors of party will emerge victorious in BDC polls
Srinagar: The state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday accused the regional mainstream political parties of playing with the sentiments of people, stating that the parties were never serious regarding the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking to the wire service –Kashmir News Observer (KNO), BJP State Vice President Ajay Bharati, said that in case the former chief minister Late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah was serious regarding the special status of Jammu and Kashmir why did he made the temporary law.
“The leaders from political parties here were threatening the government over the abrogation of Article 370. In case they were serious then why did they keep loopholes in it during the accession time? Late Sheikh Abdullah should have made the law permanent then,” he said.
He said that these parties are only making emotional statements to hoodwink the people, adding that the party has failed to come with a single disadvantage regarding the abrogation of Article 370.
Bharati further stated that the BJP government in centre will provide every benefit to the people of Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.
Asked about the upcoming Block Development Council (BDC) elections, BJP’s Incharge for BDC polls from Kashmir, Altaf Thakur, told KNO that the campaigning has been started, adding that “we have started zone wise campaigning from South Kashmir today. A rally for the polls will be held in North and Central Kashmir on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.”
He added that 15 candidates of BJP have emerged victorious uncontested, adding that the party confident enough to emerge victorious from 80 per cent of councils. Ajay further added that the party will started campaigning at block level. He also added that BJP is confident enough to achieve the target set by the party high command.
Meanwhile BJP State Vice President stated that restoration of democratic institutions was priority for the government while winning the elections is secondary focus for the party.
About the boycott by other mainstream leaders, Bharati stated that these parties preferred to boycott polls as they have lost the ground. “These parties have failed to come up to the expectations of people, hence they have lost the ground and decided to stay away from the polls,” he said. (KNO)
