Srinagar: Commuters, as well as transport buses, find difficult to walk and run in major of the city roads, As few hours of rain sinks major city roads that it was difficult to the students to reach their schools on the first day after summer vacations. Normal life was thrown out of gear a few hours of rain lashed over Srinagar city and its outskirts on Thursday morning.

Srinagar Municipal Corporation’s failure to carry out pre-monsoon cleaning and Constructing of major drains resulted in low-lying roads getting inundated.
Traffic movement through city roads was hit from 9 am onwards, with pedestrians suffering the most clogged with drainages overflowing on to the street.

Incidents of people getting fallen into overflowing drainages were reported from places like lal chock, press Colony, poloview and jahangeer chock.

“The city faces the water-logging issue when it rains. This is due to the laxity of SMC in conducting timely cleaning and Constructing of major drainage system,” said Mohd Younis khan, a shopkeeper

The students were unable to cross the water logging roads to reach the schools and most of them missed their first school day.

“Students who arrived near Amira Kadal were stranded as autorickshaws refused to pick up us citing the flooded roads leading to our respective schools which compelled us to return home without attending classes,” shaziya, a student.

Although DC Srinagar and Deputy mayor were on the spots to take notice of the situation and dewatering punps were installed in different places.
