Srinagar : The Field executives of the Legal Metrology Department under the supervision of Dy. Controller conducted a surprise inspection of bakers in the wee hours today in the areas comprising of Dalagate, Gagribal, Buchwara, Ishber Braien etc. and booked 9 erring bakers for violating Legal Metrology Laws.
The department had received the complaints from the residents of Ishber that the bakers of the area are coercing them to buy Rs 10/- Kashmiri Tchut and Lawasa in place of Rs 5/- denominations.
The Director Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Kashmir has recently issued a rate-list of Kashmiri Tchut, Tchawroo and Lawasa in consultation with the allied departments and other stake holders. Pertinent to note here, the rate of Rs 5/- has been fixed for 55 gram of Kashmiri Tchut, Tchawroo and Lawasa with the direction that bakers shall keep available Rs 5/- Kashmiri Tchut, Tchawroo and Lawasa for the consumers.
According to the Department most of the bakers were found complying the rate-list issued by the authorities. However, some of the bakers were found without the Weighing Scales and weights or using un-reverified weights and measures.
A compounding fee of Rs 6600/- was collected from the erring traders. The consumers are informed to lodge genuine complaints with the department if the bakers indulge in short-weighments.(CNS)
