Srinagar: People’s Conference senior vice president and former minister, Abdul Gani Vakil on Tuesday welcomed the verdict of the Kathua rape and murder case, saying that “justice, although delayed, has finally prevailed and the courts have finally taken the case to its logical conclusion, even though the punishment for such a heinous and ruthless crime should be more stringent”, adding that this verdict has strengthened the belief of the common man in the judicial system.
Vakil not only expressed his support for the Court verdict, but also hailed the Jammu and Kashmir police who investigated the matter without succumbing to any political pressure.
“The Jammu and Kashmir Police deserves credit for being fair and just during the proceedings of the case. The way they have brought justice to the 8 year old will set an example and play a large role in ensuring it is freed from the venom of such crimes.”
Vakil said that the government must take strong measures to ensure that the women of our society feel safe when they go out.
“Such measures would serve the true purpose of the verdict and bring justice to the innocent soul who fell prey to the culprits”, he added.
