Sayan Chatterjee : Air Marshal RD Mathur AVSM, VSM, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command arrived on a two day visit to AFS Jorhat on 21 May 2019 to chair Eastern Air Command Aerospace Safety Seminar. He was received by Air Commodore SK Verma VSM, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Jorhat.
Whilst expressing on the said seminar, Lt Col Harsh Wardhan Pande, PRO (Defence), Tezpur, said, “The Aerospace Safety Seminar, is an annual event of the Eastern Air Command, which is conducted with an objective to review the flight safety statistics and strengthen measures that would enhance safety upon operations”
He also added, saying “The Air Marshal seems to be impressed upon the importance of aerospace safety in the field of aviation. So as, he urged all the participants to spread awareness and responsibility of contributing towards improvisation of the aerospace safety and facilitate duly for hazard free flying operations”
It has been reported, that, Air Marshal RD Mathur later reviewed the operational readiness of various units of the station and inspected the vital installations along with ongoing development works. In the interactive session with the station personnel, the Air Marshal appreciated their diligence and dedication to duty. Further, he lauded the station for its excellent effort in safeguarding Indian airspace in Eastern Sector and providing succor to the far flung areas of the North-East.
On this visit Air Marshal RD Mathur is accompanied by his better half Mrs Shipra Mathur, President Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Regional) and was received at Jorhat by Mrs Alka Verma, President AFWWA (Local).
In the side lines of the seminar, Mrs Shipra Mathur presided over a meeting with ‘Vayu Sanginis’ of the air base and showed keen interest in welfare activities of the AFS. She urged the sanginis to participate and learn new skills through various AFWWA ventures as it would help them develop their personality. She also visited ‘Umeed Vidya Kiran School’, being run for under privileged children by AFS Jorhat.
