Mumbai: An AN-32 aircraft of IAF overshot the main runway while departing from the Mumbai airport on Tuesday night at around 11:39pm. The air force aircraft AN-32 was departing for Yelahanka Air Force Station near Bengaluru in Karnataka. However, no injuries have been reported.
When enquired, an IAF official, stated, “Last night one of our AN-32 aircraft abandoned take off at Mumbai Airport due to technical reasons. The aircraft was stopped in the overrun area, and, later has been recovered”
The aircraft movements faced a slight slug at Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) due to the incident. The AN-32 aircraft and the crew are safe. A recovery team intervened timely later to tackle the situation.
Later, the runway 27 opened and flight operations have resumed, after a while. It has been reported that AAI had to issue a NOTAM as a security measure. The secondary runway 32 was used at the airport since the incident.
Among the flights which were delayed by the incident includes AirAsia India I5 302, Air India AI 806, GoAir G8 327, and IndiGo 6E 6749 respectively. The city-based Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the country’s second busiest airport after New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, has two crossing runways — 0927 (the main runway) and 1432 (the secondary runway) which together handle a little over 1,000 arrivals and departures per day.
