Budgam: Over 50 cows have been stolen from past three months in different hamlets of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

Reports said that cow theft incidents are on rise in Budgam, Qazi Bagh, Dreigam, Watarhal, Zarugund, Magam, Krimshora, Aarath, Magam, Naidgam and other villages.

People of these villages told news agency CNS that cattle thieves are on prowl and they are stealing cows at random without any fear from law enforcing agencies. They said that from past three months, over 50 cows have been stolen. “We registered complaints in different police stations but so for no cattle thief has been arrested or any cow recovered,” they said.

SSP Budgam said that police have busted so many gangs in the district and solved burglary cases. “Usually, cow thieves sell the stolen cattle to butchers who slaughter them instantly after the purchase, so it is very difficult to locate the stolen cows,” SSP said adding that from past one month they haven’t received any complaint about cow theft.
