SRINAGAR :Thousands of mourners this morning attended funeral prayers of slain Hizbul-Mujahideen militant Burhan Ahmad Ganie in SK Colony area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

An eyewitness while talking to PTK said, thousands of people including women and children started marching from different parts of south Kashmir and central Kashmir towards Burhan’s residence soon after news of his death in Bijbehara encounter spread and assembled in a local ground despite the restrictions imposed by authorities.

People who already were present in the area waited for almost an hour for slain Burhan’s body and chanted pro-freedom, pro-Islam, pro-Pakistan slogans when slain militant’s body reached the area.

Women welcomed slain Burhan with pro-freedom, pro-Islam songs and showered candies over his body. Mosques in the area were reverberating with pro-militant songs. Body of slain which was wrapped in a Pakistan’s national flag was at first taken to his house where his relatives were seen wailing over his body. One of the family members later removed Pakistani flag from slain Burhan’s body.

Funeral of slain was led by his father. While addressing the mourners, he asked people to forgive his son if he has done anything wrong. “Please forgive my son if he was done anything wrong to you, for the sake of Allah.” he said. Emotional scenes were seen during the funeral as most of the people were seen dropping tears out of eyes.

Mother of slain also addressed the people and asked them not to chant slogans in favour of Pakistan. “Chant slogans, but in favour of Islam and freedom not any nation.” she said.

Slain Burhan had joined militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen last year and was active since then. Last year, he was seen during offering gunsalute during the funeral of Sabzar Ahmad Sofi in Naina, Sangam.

It’s pertinent to mention here that Burhan along with his associate Safder Ahmad of Zirpara, Bijbehara were killed in a nocturnal encounter in Bijbehara town. Authorities have also suspended internet services in Anantnag district. (PTK)
