Anantnag: Army on Tuesday allegedly thrashed a special District Magistrate(SDM), Ghulam Rasool Wani, along with four officials on National Highway in Dalwach area of Qazigund in South Kashmirs Anantnag district.
The army action sparked protest while employees threatened to boycott the election process. They demanded stern action against the soldiers responsible for the act.
Reports said that SDM Dooru along with some official was passing through the highway when his vehicle was stopped by a patrolling party from Army near Dalwach Qazigund. One of the victims said that despite showing our identity, the soldiers misbehaved with them and when the SDM argued with an army officer, he manhandled him.
“As we tried to stop the army officer, the other soldiers joined in and pounced upon us. At least four officials including the SDM were attacked and humiliated,” he said.
As the news about the incident spread, a large number of employees staged protest and threatened to boycott the election process if action against the army is not taken. They staged protest inside the premises of Dak Bunglow Anantnag. The employees went on strike and said their strike will continue and they won’t participate in election process till FIR is registered against the Army personnel involved in the incident. They alleged that four officials along with SDM were thrashed and sustained injuries. (CNS)
