Army carries flag march amid curfew in town, internet snapped; situation under control: DGP

Kishtwar : A Rashtriya Swayamasevak Sangh (RSS) leader and his PSO were killed in an attack by suspected militants inside Kishtwar hospital on Tuesday.
Official sources told GNS that the suspected militants entered inside the hospital at Kishtwar on Tuesday afternoon and attacked the RSS leader Chandrakant Sharma while he was on duty in the hospital where he was working as a medical assistant.
In the attack, the PSO died on the spot while as the RSS leader suffered critical injuries and was treated upon immediately by the team of doctors in the hospital.
The gunmen after carrying out the attack decamped with the weapon of the slain PSO, a police officer confirmed to GNS. He said that massive hunt has been launched to nab the attackers.
Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana told GNS that the PSO died on the spot while as Chandrakant (RSS leader) suffered critical injuries.
“After being operated upon at the hospital, Chandrakant has been airlifted in a special chopper to GMC Jammu,” the Deputy Commissioner said. However, he said, Chandrakant Sharma succumbed to his injuries at GMC Jammu.
The Deputy Commissioner said that soon after the incident, curfew was imposed in Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the army carried a flag march amid curfew to prevent any law and order disturbance.
The authorities have also snapped mobile Internet service in Doda and Kishtwar districts.
Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh said that Chandrakant died at GMC Jammu while curfew has been imposed in Kishtwar town and some other areas of the district.
The top police officer of the state said the situation was under control and investigations into the incident were underway.
On November 1 last year, suspected militants killed BJP state secretary Anil Parihar and his brother in an attack in Kishtwar. (GNS)
