Srinagar: The employees of the Department of Public Health Engineering (PHE) Friday held a massive protest demonstration in Kashmir capital Srinagar.
The protesting employees were demanding the release of long pending salaries. Hundreds of the protesting employees including their children assembled at Partap Park Srinagar and registered their protest.
The employees were protesting under the banner of Kashmir PHE Employees Association led by its president Sajad Ahmed Parray.”By holding our salaries the government has made us suffer on daily basis,” said Sajad Parray.
“We have been protesting against the delay in our salaries from the past many months. But nobody is concerned about it,” they said. The protestors threatened to intensify protests in case their demand is not met forthwith.”Our wages have been withheld for past 22 months. We are at the verge of starvation. Our children have been asked at the schools to clear fee or else sit at home,” they said.
They accused the authorities of acting indifferent to their plight.
The children of the protesting employees who had arrived at the protesting site with their school bags waved placards appealing authorities to release the pending wages. They said their parents are unable to meet the expenses incurred on their education. (CNS)
