Srinagar’s so called international airport lacks hygiene, bathrooms

SRINAGAR:  The tall claims of the government about the so called international status Sheikh ul Alam Airport in Srinagar falls flat, when it fails to upkeep the basic facilities of bathrooms and hygiene for the passengers.

PTK learnt that the airport has two bathrooms outside, one for male passengers and other one for the females among one meant for males is locked. The only left female bathroom is left in dismal state and used by the male passengers. The bathrooms inside the building have no different fate.

Passengers scheduled to depart for different destination told PTK that the non-availability of enough number of washrooms besides keeping existing ones dirty is disgusting.

“The airport authorities have locked one bathroom and the other one is in miserable condition. Female passengers face hardship due to no bathroom availability as the female bathroom is now being used by the male passengers. How come this is an international stature airport. That seems a joke”, said Farooq Ahmad of Srinagar.

The passengers accused authorities of ignoring the plights of passengers while demanding immediate redressal of genuine grievances. Passengers said that the airports lack all the basic facilities like drinking water, toilets for passengers and people in waiting area and cleanness.

“The toilets are unhygienic and had blocked sewerage and in need of immediate repairs. This really give you a very bad impression on arrival”, said Sangeeta Agarwal of Chennie on arrival.

The passengers also demand proper infection control measures besides specific and enough number of bathrooms at the airport.

It is worth to mention that Sheikh Ul Alam International Airport is juggling the 2nd rank in the world having sophisticated and well-built Airport besides having all the necessities for travelers inside.
