Students, Traders of Poonch, Rajouri among other Jammu districts demand restoring internet

Srinagar : As internet in Poonch, Rajouri and other districts of Jammu division remained suspended for the fifth consecutive day on Tuesday, the students and traders sought its immediate restoration so that their routine activities are not hampered further.

The internet was snapped after attacks on a particular community in Jammu following deadliest attack on CRPF, claiming lives of 49 personnel of the paramilitary forces.

The traders while expressing dismay over the suspension of the internet by authorities said that their business was getting badly affected due to the internet shutdown.

“One can’t imagine without internet these days. Due to the banning of the internet, our limited business is getting severely affected. The government boasts about digitalization but the reality on the ground is otherwise. In this modern era, we are being deprived of internet services because of law and order issues,” said a trader in Poonch and appealed concerned authorities to immediately restore the connectivity so that they are not put to further inconvenience.

The students on the other hand also complained inconveniences due suspension of the internet. The students said the government on the pretext of maintaining law and order was actually punishing people. “Our examinations are round the corner and we are put to trouble,” he said.  

The students said that they can’t think of preparing examinations without internet in contemporary times and authorities should realize it, said a student from Rajouri.

Many other students said that at a time when exams at various levels were going on, the students have been deprived of Internet services. “We urge authorities to kindly restore all modes of Internet services as soon as possible,” the students demanded.

Divisional Commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma told GNS that the situation was “fast returning” to normal in Jammu a decision on restoring the internet would be taken in a security review meeting on Tuesday evening.

“We are relaxing curfew till 1:30 pm in Jammu city and other parts of the Jammu. The situation is returning to normal,”  he added. (GNS)
