Srinagar: Strongly condemning the house detention of its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Hurriyat Conference (M) on Saturday said the entire Kashmir especially Srinagar has been turned into a military garrison ahead of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi’s visit.

“Every road is dotted with forces personnel, the resistance leadership is caged in their homes or police stations and massive frisking and search operations are being conducted everywhere, leading to harassment of general public,” a Hurriyat (M) spokesperson said in a statement issued to GNS.

He said various crucial road links have been closed as part of the “so-called” security measures and people left in the lurch and forced to change routes and travel through long distances. Motorcycles are being seized, vehicles stopped for intense frisking, erection of barricades on main roads in Srinagar is nothing but a deliberate attempt to add to the miseries of people,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mirwaiz in the statement has expressed condolence over the demise of Haji Ghulam Muhamamd Sheikh, the brother-in-law of AAC  general secretary and senior leader  Muhammad Shafi Khan. He also expressed condolence over the demise of the mother of  Zahoor Ahmed Salathi of Halwal, Muhammad Ashraf Kashani of  Khanyar, Abdul Samad Kakaw of Buchpora, and prayed for highest standards in Janah for all the departed souls.

On the directions of Mirwaiz, a delegation of the amalgam comprising Mushtaq Ahmed Sufi, Ghulam Qadir Beig, Peer Ghulam Nabi, and Farooq Ahmed Saudagar visited Hawal, Sheshbagh, Khanyar and Buchpora and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families. The delegation offered special fateha prayers for the deceased, the statement said. (GNS)
