SRINAGAR : Abbas Wani, former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and ex-MLA from Tangmarg, joined Sajjad Lone’s J&K People’s Conference on Sunday. On December 10, Wani, in a letter to party president Mehbooba Mufti, informed her about his decision to resign from the basic membership of the party. Before Wani, former finance minister Haseeb Drabu, Shia leader Imran Ansari and his uncle Abid Ansari HAD resigned from the PDP.
Welcoming Wani the PDP rebel in to the party, Lone said, “Wani has been a victim of elitism. He is from a humble background. PDP as a party did not forgive him for not being one of the elites. This (elitsist exclusion) is a hidden aspect of Kashmir politics.”
Several important members from the PDP have quit the party.
On January 6, in another blow to Mehbooba Mufti-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), senior leader and former minister Javed Mustafa Mir has resigned from the party.
Mir will forward his resignation to the party on Sunday, January 6, morning. Mir, who did not cite any reason for his decision to resign, said that he will consult his followers about his future course of action.
After Haseeb Drabu, another Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Abid Hussain Ansari has announced his resignation from the party through a tweet causing another set-back to Mehbooba Mufti.
Ansari elucidated his reason for quitting PDP saying that the party has failed the people of Jammu and Kashmir on all fronts and he wishes to step back from the “lies and deception” perpetuated by the party.
On December 6, former Jammu and Kashmir finance minister Haseeb Drabu resigned from PDP claiming his absence from association with the affairs of the party for a while.
Drabu shared the letter on Twitter acknowledged Mufti Mohammad Sayeed saying, “Working with him made me realise that politics is not the ‘last refuge of scoundrels’! I just hope that when history judges Mufti Saheb and his decision to ally with the BJP, it does so in the context and with the complexity that it deserves”. (PTK)
