SRINAGAR: While the government is yet to issue any notification over the bus fare hikes, the buses ferrying passengers in Srinagar have begun charging an additional Rs 1 or Rs 2 to the passengers.

The commuters while talking to News agency Press Trust of Kashmir said that despite no notification regarding the bus fare hike was made public by the government, the passenger vehicles here have started overcharging the passengers thereby resulted in the immense hardships to them.

Abdul Majeed from Soura, one among the passengers said that he use to pay Rs 11 to reach to his office at Lal Chowk in passenger vehicle on regular basis but today the conductor of a mini bus charged him Rs 12. “The bus owners have passed the scanned copy of bus fare hike, which seems to be forged as the government has not made any notification regarding the bus fare hike public,” he said.

He said that in case the government has taken any decision regarding the bus fare hike then they should have made the notification public. “If the bus owners are charging additional Rs 1 or Rs 2 on their will, then the government should take immediate action them,” he said.

Commuters are upset about the lack of uniformity in hiking the charges and not being informed about it in advance. “There was no announcement about the government’s decision to increase bus fares and how it was going to be raised in any of the newspaper, television or radios.

Buses charge different fares on different days. Private buses have also begun to hike their fares by Rs2-Rs3 in the last one week,” he added. (PTK)
