Expresses shock, anguish over Pulwama killings, Says South Kashmir reeling under fear, deprivation
Calls for fresh approach by country’s leadership to address the Kashmir challenge
Srinagar: Expressing shock and anguish over the killing of several civilians by security forces in Pulwama today following an encounter, PDP President and former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti said the incident has left the whole State terrified. She said no probe or enquiry is enough to bring the dead innocent civilians back to life and it would only further alienate the people.
Mehbooba Mufti regretted the role of the administration in providing secure atmosphere to the people of the State and avoiding collateral damage especially in Kashmir valley. She said South Kashmir in particular has been reeling under fear and depridation for the last six months, as are the reports from people indicative of. “Is that all we expected from the Governors rule?”, she questioned adding that providing a secure atmosphere to people was the sole responsibility of this administration in which it has miserably failed. She asked the administration to shun this macho approach to deal with people and adopt a humane approach in dealing with day to day law and order issues.
Terming the daily killings and cycle of violence in the State as a symptom of a larger malaise, the former Chief Minister appealed the political class and civil society of the country to undertake a fresh approach to this challenge as all other methods and mechanisations so far here have turned pale. “As the country and the region are heralding into new realities, it is incumbent upon the political leadership and civil society of the country to address this challenge boldly,” she said in her statement.
Mehbooba Mufti has conveyed her deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
