Pulwama man killed in cross firing had no militant links: Police tells SHRC

Petitioner says NoKs must be provided job, proper compensation

Srinagar : A report submitted by the senior superintendent of police before the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) in connection with the killing of a civilian of Pulwama said that the he was not having any militant connection or involved in any criminal activity.

The SSP Pulwama’s report has come in response to the petition filed by the chairman International Forum for Justice and Human Rights (IFJHR) Muhammad Ahsan Untoo in case number SHRC/175/Pul/2018.

The police report reads that during the course of investigations, the investigating officer seized the AK 47 magazine, 08 cartridges and 3 cartridges of INSAS. “During investigations at some distance from the scene of occurrence a vehicle bearing registration number JKO1G 9688 in which injured person namely Bilal Ahmed Ganai of Narwa Pulwama was found and four cartridges of aK 47 also seized from the vehicle. The injured was taken to district hospital Pulwama, where he was declared brought dead,” the police report reads. In a statement to Valley Media Service, it states that slain driver Bilal was not involved in any militant activity nor was he having any criminal activity/case against him in police station Pulwama.

The report also stated that on May 27, 2018, 50 RR unit had deployed a Naka at Kakapora and in the meantime a sumo vehicle registration number JKO1G9688 was coming in suspicious circumstances. “The vehicle was asked to stop for checking purpose but instead of giving any response to the signal, unknown militants on board started indiscriminate firing on the naka party with the intention to kill them and the naka party retaliated in self defence and during the firing one constable Vikram Singh of 50 RR sustained bullet injuries and was shifted to 92 base hospital where he succumbed to his injuries,” the report reads.

The petitioner, however, said that the civilian Bilal was killed for his no fault and it stands proved now and urged the SHRC to ensure that the Bilal’s family is given proper compensation and a job to next of kin of slain.(VMS)
