A shutdown is being observed in Kashmir valley on Monday against the human rights violations.
The call for shutdown was issued by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik against what they called as grave human rights abuses in the valley.
All shops and other commercial establishments are closed in Srinagar and other district headquarters of the valley.
Public transport is off the roads while a skeletal movement of private vehicles was witnessed in uptown areas of Srinagar city.
Besides the shutdown, the JRL has asked people to observe December 10 (International Human Rights Day) as a black day.
The leadership appealed to the international human rights agencies to take note of “grave” human rights violations taking place in Kashmir and pressurise India to stop the violations, said the JRL, in a statement last week.
