SRINAGAR : Three militants were killed by security forces in an overnight encounter that broke out on the outskirts of Srinagar. An Army soldier was also injured in the 18-hour gunfight.
A search operation was launched by the police and security forces at Mujgund area on Bandipora road on Saturday. The operation that started with security forces acting on inputs turned into an encounter when the militants targeted the search party.
An Indian soldier, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) persons and three policemen were injured late on Saturday, hours after the encounter broke out around evening in the Mujgund area following a tip off about militant presence.
The injured Army soldier was taken to hospital for treatment. The bodies of the militants who have been decimated, have been retrieved from the site of the encounter and arms and ammunition have been recovered from the site.
The police identified the two militants as Mudasir Parray and Saquib Mushtaq, both hailing from Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
According to the reports the third militant was identified as Ali Bhai, who is a resident of Pakistan. “All the militants belonged to the LeT militant outfit,”.
“People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitised and cleared of all the explosives materials if any,”.
Meanwhile, clashes between groups of youth and security forces have erupted in the area. Authorities have suspended mobile Internet services in the city as a precautionary measure, a police official said. (PTK)
