SRINAGAR : At least 11 people have been killed and scores injured when the bus they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge in Plera in Mandi tehsil of Poonch district on Saturday.
The accident occurred at Plera when the driver of the bus, coming from Loran to Poonch, lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a curve and rolled down into a 100-meter gorge, a police official said.
The death toll is expected to go up as the condition of most of the injured was stated to be “critical”, the official said.
DDC Poonch Rahul Yadav said; ” 11 deaths and 34 injured people are being treated at different hospitals. We’ve arranged air ambulance for those who are in a critical condition.
Meanwhile Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday expressed grief over the loss of lives in an accident at Mandi area of Poonch district.
Taking to the social networking site, Twitter Mirwaiz wrote: “Deeply grieved at the loss of life in the tragic road accident at Poonch. My condolences to the affected families. Pray to almighty for speedy recovery of the injured.” (PTK)
