Mehjoor Nagar residents protests, demands restoration of bridge

SRINAGAR : Residents of Mehjoor Nagar stages protest at press enclave in Srinagar today, demanding restoration of the bridge.

Protesters chants slogans against Rural and Block development (R&B), alleging them for keeping the Mehjoor Nagar Bridge under blockade besides not repairing it.

Pertinently the bridge has been banned for vehicular, pedestrian movement as the very department has declared it unsafe. The protesters said near about one crore populations is affected due to its blockade, adding that it renders inhabitants to face immense problems when there is any untoward.

The protesting residents of the areas said, “It takes us less time to reach at our respective destinations via this bridge”. They added, after the blockage of the bridge the department they are forced to go via Rambagh, which consumes lot of time, hence inconvenience.

They alleged that from the past five years, the concerned authorities have been only estimating the bridge repairing besides giving false assures to upgrade the damaged bridge.

The said that the department has failed to restore, adding that now when people need it the most due to huge traffic influx in the city , they left it banned for public movement. “They seem least bothered”, said Gulzar Ahmad, a protester of Mehjoornagar.

The protesters appealed to the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, R&B Minister, Abdul Rehman Veeri, Divisional Commissioner Kahsmir to look into the grievance.
