SRINAGAR: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday asked the government to end ambiguity surrounding the killing of a man in a firing incident in central Kasmir’s Budgam district last night.
“Conflicting reports of the circumstances surrounding Ishfaq Ahmed’s shooting. It’s imperative that the administration establish the factual position to the satisfaction of the people, especially Ishfaq’s family. May Ishfaq find his place in Jannat,” tweeted Abdullah.
Reports said that Ishfaq was killed after army allegedly opened fire in Chattergam area of Budgam district last night.
However, army refuted the allegations, claiming that Ishfaq was shot at by the militants “500-600 metres” from the Chattergam army camp.
Meanwhile condemning what it termed as the “cold-blooded murder” of a youth in central Kashmir’s Budgam district last night, Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday demanded an impartial probe to bring culprits to book.
A spokesman of the outfit said that Ishfaq Ahmad of Magraypora was shot dead by “army soldiers without any justification”.
He said that Ganai was riding his two-wheeler on Chatergam-Gowharpora road when he was hit by bullets near Zenipora crossing.
“He was a carpenter by profession and is survived by his wife and two children. In the same fashion, the personnel belonging to the same camp murdered two persons from Nowgam in the recent past,” said the spokesman.
Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir demands a high-level probe by some impartial judicial agency so as to bring the real culprits to book and get them appropriately punished, said the spokesman.
He regretted what he termed as the “silence” of the international organizations and human rights bodies.
