SRINAGAR: While seeking intervention and cognizance of organizations for human rights organization, Hurriyat (G) alleges that detainees in Mattan Islamabad jail are manhandled and ill-treated by authorities.
Hurriyat (G) condemns the alleged brute and inhuman approach of jail staff towards detainees adding that the notorious and criminal official appointed as jailer leaves no stone unturned to harass those lodged in jail.
Hurriyat said that a low rank official, who is very confidential and close to jailer subjects prisoners to worst type of torture. Hurriyat warned authorities of dire consequences as the ill treatment of detainees is unacceptable.
Hurriyat (G) appeals international human right bodies, especially ICRC, International Red Cross to take the cognizance of alleged excesses perpetrated by jail authorities.
Further referring to the reports from those visiting their inmates, Hurriyat said that during frisking, detainees are humiliated and asked to put off all their clothes.
Hurriyat in a statement issued to PTK said that political prisoners are not treated as per jail manual, instead are subjected to more callous treatment as compared to criminals and those involved in severe crimes.
Hurriyat said that the most of the detainees are suffering from different ailments and no proper medical treatment is provided to them.
