SRINAGAR: A conference titled, ‘Burning Heaven’ was held in Qom, Iran, in solidarity with the people of the conflict-stricken region of Kashmir and was organised by Tehreek e Ittehad Ummat Jammu and Kashmir.
The conference was presided over by Ayatollah Akhtari, the Chairman of the World Ahlulbayt Assembly.
During his speech at the conference, Ayatollah Akhtari urged Muslim communities to support Kashmir. The leader also condemned the ‘brutal killings’ in Kashmir.
Ayatollah Ustad Ahmed Aabidi, in his speech, condemned the recent killings in the Valley and urged world bodies to pay attention towards Kashmir. He said that the time was not far when Kashmir would regain its previous position and peace would prevail in the Valley.
Large gatherings of students from different nations attended the ‘Solidarity Conference’. Special prayers were also held for the people of Kashmir.
27 October, which is considered a ‘Black Day’ in Kashmir following the landing of Indian armed forces in the valley 71 years ago, would also be observed over there.
Meanwhile Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has said Pakistan will continue its moral, political and diplomatic support for Kashmiris until they realise their legitimate right to self-determination in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
In his message on Kashmir Black Day, he said the day marks a tragic day in the history of South Asia.
The prime minister called for immediate implementation of the recommendation to set up a UN Commission of Inquiry to investigate human rights abuses by forces in Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Pakistani President Dr Arif Alvi has said the country pays homage to the sacrifices of its brethren in Kashmir and reiterates its unflinching and steadfast moral, diplomatic and political support for the just cause of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In his message on the occasion, he said this support will continue till the realization of their lawful right to self-determination.
The president said that United Nations Security Council through several of its resolutions, has validated the Kashmiris’ right to decide their future through a fair and impartial plebiscite.
Kashmir Black Day is being observed today to convey to the world that India has Jammu and Kashmir against their will and is denying them their inalienable right to self-determination.
On October 27, 1947, the forces had invaded Jammu and Kashmir and occupied it in total violation of the Partition Plan of the subcontinent and against the Kashmiris’ aspirations.
A complete shutdown is being observed in Kashmir today.
All the business establishments, markets, schools, colleges, and transport across the valley are closed. The Joint Resistance Leadership had called for a complete strike to mark the “black day” in the history of Kashmir. (PTK)
