Kashmir shuts against militants, civilian killing

SRINAGAR: Kashmir valley observes a complete shutdown on Thursday against the killing of two militants and a civilian in a gunfight on Wednesday.

The government forces imposed stringent restrictions in parts of Srinagar particularly the Downtown area. “The deployment of forces was increased and entry and exit points to the Old City were sealed,” they said.

At several places in the city, reports said, forces stopped pedestrian and vehicular movement.

Meanwhile, all the shops and business establishments remained shut across Kashmir wile transport also was off the roads.

The call for shutdown was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik.

Two militants Mehrajuddin Bangroo, a top Lashkar commander and Fahad Mushtaq Wani were killed in a gunfight on Wednesday with government forces. A civilian Rayees Ahmad was also killed by the forces in the encounter.

The trio was laid to rest at the martyrs’ graveyard in Eidgah last evening amid thousands of people participating in their funeral prayers. (PTK)
