SRINAGAR : Stone Quarry workers held a protest demonstration in Srinagar against the government for banning stone quarrying activities in Athwajan and Pantha Chowk and demanded immediate revocation of the ban.
Scores of quarry holders assembled in press enclave Srinagar under the banner of “United Quarry Association Athwajan” and “Himalayan Quarry and Tipper Association” Pantha Chowk.
The protesters holding the placards and banners demanded revocation of the ban on stone quarrying activities.
Nazir Ahmad, one of the Quarry holders said that they have been facing hardships after the government imposed ban on stone quarrying activities. “The ban should be revoked at the earliest for the well being of the quarry holders,” he said.
He said: “We are nearly two thousand people who are affiliated with this work, whether it is a Stone Quarry holder or Tipper driver.”
The protesters appealed the Governor to look into the sufferings of the quarry holders and revoke the ban at the earliest. (PTK)
