Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik was on Tuesday arrested in Srinagar to prevent him from carrying out an election boycott campaign, said a party spokesman.
Reports said that a police party raided the Abi Guzar office of Malik and detained him.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik have called a boycott of upcoming civic polls in the state.

A JKLF spokesman said that Malik along with other leaders was planning to start a sustained election boycott campign. “He (Malik) has been arrested for the election boycott call,” said the spokesman.

The JRL has asked people to boycott the elections as they were “just farce and aimed at diluting the basic nature of Kashmir dispute”.
