Aghast with the government decision to start exams from October, the students of class 11th on Saturday staged a protest in Srinagar to demand deferment of exams till mid-November.

Scores of students from different higher secondary schools assembled at Press Enclave here today morning and shouted slogans to demand deferment of their annual exams.

The students were holding placards and banners which read “defer our exams” and “We want Justice.” The protesting students asked the authorities, especially JK Board of School Education (BOSE) to reschedule their exams to mid-November.

“We have not completed our syllabus yet but the government is adamant to hold our exams as per their own convenience without considering the students’ point of view. We won’t be able to perform better in exams,” said one of the protesting students.

The JK Board of School education (BOSE) has scheduled the annual exams for class 10, 11 and 12th from last week of October.

The students threatened more protests to seek deferment of exams if the government didn’t cancel the already notified date sheet.

“They (authority) want to fulfill this formality to conduct civic body polls smoothly. It is unfortunate that they are preferring elections over the cost of career of thousands of students,” said another protesting student.

The students said they will boycott the upcoming annual exams if the date sheet is not rescheduled.

From past few days, the students from class 10th to 12th are seeking deferment of their annual exams to mid-November citing non completion of syllabus in schools.

Director school education Kashmir (DSEK) G N Itoo had earlier written to Secretary JK BOSE and sought deferment of exams to mid- November stating that syllabus of students was not complete in their schools.
