Police arrest journalist for harbouring militants in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: Police have arrested a Kashmir based journalist Asif Sultan for harbouring militants. Police in a statement said that on 31/8/2018 they have arrested Asif Sultan, son of Mohammed Sultan Saida of Firdous Abad,Batmaaloo Srinagar in case FIR No: 173/2018.

Police claims that the initial questioning of the accused, subsequent searches and disclosures made in the case so far have led to seizure of incriminating materials from various locations. “It also establishes his complicity for harbouring known militants involved in serious of crimes”, police statement said.

Further investigation is of the case is going on, police added.

Sultan was arrested from his home in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday by a huge contingent of police. Family members reportedly said they took him, searched his room, his books, took his laptop and phone.

Sultan is an assistant editor with monthly magazine Kashmir Narrator. Asif had recently written a cover story on Burhan Wani, the popular Hizb Commander killed in 2016, whose killing triggered a massive uprising in Kashmir valley, for which he was quizzed.
