There was no doctor or paramedic present in the hospital, belying government’s claims of providing 24×7 health care facilities to the people. The patients who visited the health centre were left fumed on finding it locked. “The need for fully functional primary health centre cannot be ignored and how can the government be so careless,” said Ghulam Mohammad, one of attends of a patient who was disappointing at finding the PHC closed at 11 a.m. in the morning.

When contacted, concerned BMO Dr Fareed said that on account of Eid, the PHC was closed yesterday and “it should have been open for first half today.”

“It should have been open for first half and I will look into it,” the BMO said. Asked about former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s assertion during one of her visits that the PHC would be open or 24×7, the BMO said that 24×7 facility needs required staff including pharmacists etc. “There is lack of proper staff for keeping the PHC open 24×7,” the BMO added. (GNS)
