SRINAGAR: Locals on Wednesday held demonstrations and locked down Sub-District Hospital Charar-e-Sharif for couple of hours alleging that continuous absence of a Gynecologist in the hospital has been adversely affecting the patient care system.

The protesters including some patients alleged that there is no Gynecologist in the hospital from past two months.

Protesters said a couple of woman who are in family’s way need Gynecologist care but the lone Gynecologist was transferred some two months ago and nobody replaced her.

“This hospital is in a shambles. Doctors come and go at their will, leaving patients at the mercy of compounders. Lot of patients had arrived here for various kinds of medical checkups but there was no one to attend them,” a protester Mohammad Amin said.

When contacted Block Medical Officer (BMO) Charar-e-Sharif, Dr Mastoora said that the Gynecologist posted here was shifted to District Hospital Budgam some two months back and since then patients are suffering. BMO said she has already taken up the matter with District Development Commissioner and hopefully any Gynecologist will be posted here.

Meanwhile, a protest erupted at Sub District Hospital Pattan against the lack of facility. The attendants alleged that they are being forced to visit private clinics for different tests. They alleged that hospital is lacking X-ray machines. “Neither there is any Digital X-ray machine nor has the old one been repaired. This is the hospital by name only where patients suffer day in and day out,” they said. (CNS)
