NEW DEHLI: Chief of Naval Staff of Indian Navy Admiral Sunil Lanba made a courtesy call on President of Bangladesh M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban today. Welcoming the Indian Navy chief at Bangabhaban, the President expressed that bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India are excellent now and it is strengthening gradually.
President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin intimated reporters after the meeting. Abdul Hamid said such a visit between the naval forces of two countries will play a very effective role in strengthening bilateral relations.
Stressing the need for the optimum use of the maritime resources of the two neighbors, he said there is an enormous scope of exploring the possibilities of blue economy.”A joint research initiative is a must to explore the marine potential as Bangladesh and India share a common maritime boundary,” the President said.
Indian Navy chief Sunil Lanba said naval forces of both Bangladesh and India would get benefits by exchanging mutual experiences and arranging joint-training programme.The aim of the joint patrol is to reduce transnational or non-traditional maritime threats that affect the maritime security.
About the coordinated patrolling (CORPAT) in the maritime boundary, he said this will reduce transnational or non-traditional maritime threats that affect the maritime security and it will help ensure economic development for both the states directly and indirectly.
The first-ever Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) by the Bangladesh and Indian navies would be conducted in Chittagong on June 27.Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla, secretaries concerned to the President and senior military officials of both the countries were present at the occasion.
Admiral Lanba is on a six-day visit to Bangladesh at an invitation of Chief of Naval Staff of Bangladesh Navy Admiral Mohammad Nizamuddin Ahmed.
