SRINAGAR: Thousands of people on Wednesday took part in the last rites of two militants who, according to army, were killed in a gunfight near the Line of Control in Tanghdar area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on May 26.
Reports said that a spontaneous shutdown was observed in Pulwama and Kulgam district to mourn the deaths of Mudasir Ahmad Bhat of Parigam, Kulgam and Sheraz Ahmad Sheikh of Lajoora, Pulwama.
After exhumation, their bodies were handed to their families yesterday, more than 10 days after they were buried near the Line of Control (LoC) at Badwan village in Tanghdar area.
The families of the duo submitted applications for the exhumation after seeing their pictures on social media websites and later at Tanghdar police station.
Soon after their bodies reached Parigam and Lajoora, thousands of people from the adjacent areas reached there and participated in their funeral prayers.
Several rounds of funeral prayers were offered for both the slain militants. Both the militants were later laid to rest amid pro-freedom and anti-government slogans, it said. (GNS)
