SRINAGAR: Residents of Drabgam area on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration outside the office of deputy commissioner Pulwama against vandalizing of Hizb commander Sameer ‘Tiger’s’ by government forces.
“From 1965, they are killing living beings. Ever since ceasefire, they have got more excited and they have started beating even graves. Till now they were martyring people and in dead of darkness, they came and vandalized gravestone of martyrs. They are resorting open terrorism,” said a protester as people staged a sit-in out the deputy commissioner’s office.
“After coming out of mosque this morning, we found the gravestone of Sameer Tiger’s grave damaged. The banners covering the grave were also torn off,” said another protester.
Samee Tiger was killed along with an associate in a gunfight with the government forces on April 30 this year. Reports said people also staged protests as soon as the word spread in the area. They were shouting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, reports added. The deputy commissioner Pulwama could not be contacted for comment or whether any assurance was made by him to the protesters.
