SRINAGAR: Family of a 47-year-old Muneer-ul-Hassan Qadri from Kupwara on Saturday contested NIA claims regarding his involvement in Nagrota camp attack, saying that the agency has implicated him to “win awards”.
Muneer’s wife Shahida Begum said her husband, hailing from Khurhama Lolab in north Kashmir, was living at his brother’s house at Mustafabad, Zainakote, Srinagar.
He was summoned by Parimpora police one and a half month ago. Later, he was detained at Cargo for more than three weeks, Shahida told GNS adding that he was later taken to Khanyar police station where from he was shifted to central jail Srinagar.
“We were told to get bail in favour of Muneer so that he will be released,” Muneer’s brother said.
Shahida said her mother-in-law Syeda Bibi Khatoon, a 103-year-old woman and unable to walk, desperately wanted to meet Muneer.
“Few days back, we somehow managed to take her up to the central jail gate where she was denied meeting with her son,” she said adding that Muneer’s mother met her son twice earlier, first at Cargo then at Khanyar.
“She was told that her son will be freed soon but nothing as such happened till date. She keeps looking through the window, waiting for her son to return home,” she said.
The family said the police officers at Cargo and Khanyar police station told them that Muneer is being questioned and the issue is a normal one and he will be released.
“Yesterday (Friday), we received a call from Khanyar police station that Muneer was being taken to Jammu court in a case related to illegal timber recovered from his friend,” the family told GNS. “Today we are hearing through the news that Muneer was taken to Delhi by NIA who have implicated him in a false case. The news was a shock for us especially the ailing mother.”
“NIA’s claims that Muneer received militants, stayed along with them in a hotel in Jammu etc is baseless,” Muneer’s mother told GNS.
“He is not able to move. He is suffering from polio and his wife is doing tailoring job to manage daily affairs,” the family said.
Muneer had returned from Pakistan along with his wife from Muzafarabad via Nepal border and he according to the family was staying in Srinagar for the last several years. (GNS)
