SHOPIAN: PDP leader and MLA Wachi Aijaz Ahmad Mir Wednesday said he has not sought votes for Aazadi, but for the development of the “neglected area of Shopian.

“We all know Kashmir is a political issue. I have sought votes for development and not for freedom (Aazadi) in 2014 elections. Give me votes, I will give you development,” he said.

Mir visited his volatile Wachi constituency after a period of eight months.

Speaking to the people at the Community Facility Center, which he inaugurated in the morning, said, “Someone has to take the front to do developmental work in this area,” he said.

Mir said until everyone contributes in creating peaceful atmosphere in the Wachi constituency, the developmental works will continue to suffer. “Most of the developmental projects have delayed,” he said.

He told the gathering that no officer wants to work in this area because of the volatile situation. “It is hard to persuade officers to work in Wachi. Everyone cites reasons that the situation is not conducive there,” Mir said.

The ruling PDP MLA also cautioned the officers for indulging in corrupt activities and directed the ACD Shopian and other district officers to ensure transparent work.

“The Constituency Development Fund is your money, the taxpayers’ money. I am only its chowkidar,” he said.

Mir told the officers that he knows what is happening in every section of every office. “Don’t think that I am sitting in Srinagar and I don’t know what is happening in Wachi. I am aware about everything. I won’t tolerate corrupt activities,” he said.

The MLA also expressed his unhappiness over the delay in the pace of work in Bijbehara-Shopian two-lane road project.

“I am not happy with the pace of the work. It was Mufti Sahab’s dream project. But the work is not going at satisfactory pace. You (officers) have misled me about the ongoing work on the project,” he said.

During the extensive tour that was taken after 8 months, Mir inaugurated hotline 24*7 power supplies to the Community Health Center and Foot Bridge at Zainapora and took stock of other developmental works in the area.  (CNS)
