NEW DELHI: On April 28, 2013 , it was announced that Jammu and Kashmir governor N N Vohra   would get second term in the Jammu and Kashmir state , with the then President Pranab Mukherjee  renewing his lease over Srinagar Raj Bhavan for five more years at that time.  N.N. Vohra’s term end in June,2018.
It is worth mentioning here that the although the governor holds office for a term of five years from the date on which he enters upon his Office, yet this term is subject to pleasure of president. The “doctrine of pleasure” has always been used to drop governors any time and thus, Governors have no security of tenure. Further, a governor can resign from the office by addressing resignation to President.
With few weeks remaining to complete his tenth year the curiosity is on who will be the new governor of the state. Any further extension to NN Vohra does not make any sense, according to ground zero voices as he has outlived his significance.
And now accordingly the talk on who could be the new governor of Jammu and Kashmir state has gained momentum and curiosity is on.
According to the Kashmir News Bureau Former Commander of Srinagar based Chinar Corps Lieutenant General (Retired) Syed Ata Hasnain is tipped  to be among the favourites to be new Governor of Jammu & Kashmir. The retired general has won support from the people at helm in the centre and as such the decks seem to have been cleared in this regard.
According to legal experts it is not much heard that Governor term going beyond ten years in any state of India.
The biggest positive in favour of General Hasnain is his legacy of connect with common masses. An outstanding officer, Gen Hasnain had, as General Officer Commanding in Jammu and Kashmir in 2010-2011, set an excellent example of right use with combination  of soft power with hard power.
There has been much talk of under utilization in crucial times, and one good example of under-utilisation of high-level talent is Lt Gen (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain, who, many say, should have been the governor of Kashmir under the Modi dispensation or handling some important assignment to do with national security.
Raees Ahmad, a youth stated – “Kashmir is facing quite tough times currently and in this era of darkness and rampant bloodshed everywhere the urge to have a rationale person at the helm of post of Governor is need of times. The personality of General Ata Hasnain is best suited to tackle these tough circumstances as his conduct, experience and exuberance is much needed on ground to change things towards betterment.”
The analytical kaleidoscope clearly suggests at this volatile juncture General Ata Hasnain is the best choice for Governor post in Jammu and Kashmir. (KNB)
