Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has called for an emergency meeting of the JKNC Legislative Party and its allies, including the Congress, tomorrow to discuss the recent transfer of 48 JKAS officers by the Lieutenant Governor’s administration, reliable sources told.
According to insiders, the move by the LG administration has not been well received by the elected government, which believes that LG Manoj Sinha is overstepping his authority by interfering in civil affairs. Sources within the government argue that the transfer of JKAS officers falls within the domain of the elected government, not the LG.
This is reportedly the second time such an action has been taken by the LG administration. Earlier, similar transfers were ordered when Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was away on a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, a move that had also sparked concerns within the ruling National Conference and its allies.
A senior National Conference leader, while confirming the emergency meeting, stated that apart from the transfer orders, several other sensitive issues are also expected to be discussed. However, he did not disclose further details. [KNT]
