50 injured in clash between protesters, security forces; firing reported

SRINAGAR: At least 50 persons including college students were  injured in clashes between protesters and forces in Pulwama town in south Kashmir.

A group of students of Pulwama College started shouting slogans and hurling stones at forces naka party near Degree College, Pulwama, resulting in injuries to 50 students.

Some injured have been shifted to Srinagar for advanced treatment, local sources said.

Sources said the security forces resorted to baton charge and fired several tear smoke shells and pellets after the students objected to a naka near the College.

Forces also fired in air, local sources said.

They said that during clashes followed by shutdown, some 50 persons sustained injuries.

The situation was tense in the south town, they added.
