3 drug peddlers arrested: Police

Srinagar : Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested 03 drug peddlers in Baramulla, Kulgam & Shopian districts and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.

In Baramulla, a police party of Police Station Kunzer assisted by SHO PS Kunzer during patrolling at Lalpora Kunzer apprehended a suspicious person carrying a polythene bag, a police spokesman said in a statement

On checking, 2Kgs of grinded cannabis leaves was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, police said.

In Kulgam, a specific information was generated by Kulgam Police from credible sources regarding transportation of drugs in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kulgam, police said.

Accordingly, a police party of PS Kulgam led by SHO PS Kulgam established a checkpoint at Chawalgam Chowk and intercepted a suspected person identified as Shabroz Ahmad Itoo son of Abdul Ahad Itoo resident of Chawalgam carrying a bag.

On checking 3.5 kgs of grinded cannabis was recovered from the said bag. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Moreover, in Shopian, a police party at a checkpoint established at Kundallan intercepted a vehicle (Tata Mobile) bearing registration number JK22C-1395 driven by Basharat Hussain Shah son of Saif-ul-lah Shah resident of Kharwara Shopian.

On checking, 4.5Kgs of crushed poppy straw, 4Kgs of charas powder, 5 grams of heroin concealed in two (02) bags was recovered. Besides, a weighing machine & grinder was also recovered from the vehicle. The drug peddler has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody and the vehicle has also been seized, police said.

Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.

“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said—(KNO)
