SRINAGAR: A three- day folk theatre festival exhibition concluded in Srinagar’s Tagore Hall on Wednesday, in which many personalities from the cultural and folk theatre background participated and expressed their displeasure over the declining of Kashmir’s rich culture- particularly folk theatre.
On the third and final day, National Bhand Theatre also organized Folk Theatre Conference to discuss the revival of folk theatre in the state in future and the need for its revival.
Khawaja Farooq Renzu Shah was chief guest on last day. “Our youth must join us (elders) for the revival of our rich culture.” he said.
Bashir Bhawani, Mohammad Yousuf Taing, Nisar Naseem and Shafiq Qureishi and many prominent faces from this profession were present on the occasion.
Shah-e-Jahan Ahmad Bhagat Festival Director said the motive of the festival is the revival lost glory of different folk activities, which has deep roots in Kashmir history.
Earlier, the festival was organized by Alamdar Bhagat Theatre, Mohripora Anantnag – sponsored by Ministry of Culture, Government of India, New Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Srinagar.
Syed Mudasir Gulzar Naqeeb Managing Director S.R Events said: “Our main motive is to attract our young generation towards our rick folk culture.”
Noted writer Mohammad Yousuf Taing, Secretary and Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Srinagar Dr Aziz Hajini, Director, Theatre expert Mushtaq Ali Ahmad Khan and President Alamdar Bhagat Theatre, Mohripora Anantnag Gul Mohammad Mohripora also graced the occasion.
The festival started with honoring many personalities, who have contributed immensely in this field. Different groups performed on the stage on the first day. Scores of folk theatre lovers throng to the venue to catch the glimpse of the event.
