JAMMU : Jammu and Kashmir government on Mondaysaid that as many as 26214 cases of cancer were registered in Kashmir in last 7 years.
In a written reply to a question of MLA Idgah Mubarak Gul, the Minister in charge Health and Medical Education said that 3075 cases of cancer were registered in the year 2011, 3288 cases in 2012, 3157 cases in 2013, 3940 cases in 2014, 4257 cases in 2015, 4976 cases in 2016 and 3521 cases in 2017.
He said that if poor patients falling under income group of less 20000/month are being given financial assistance under Cancer Treatment Fund.
He added that the PET-CT has been operational from 7-1-2018 & so far 20 procedures have been done till 15-1-2018 added that the proposal regarding establishment of a Medical University in J&K State is under active consideration.
He further said that 27 doctors including Professor, Assistant Professor, Senior Resident and Post Graduate students had been engaged for cancer treatment at SKIMS beside 15 supporting staff and Medical Officer and Staff Nurse are also working in the cancer wing of the hospital.
In the department of oncology, 16 staff members including doctors are looking for the department. (PTK)
